    Substitute for hydroxychloroquine

Carole, Just curious, did you try the generic (hydroquix...)or brand name Plaquenil? When I started Plaquenil, my GI system was in an uproar. I couldn't tolerate the generic, but the brand name has a coating for the stomach.

Hydroxychloroquine typically is very well tolerated. Serious side effects are rare. The most common side effects are nausea and diarrhea, which often improve with time. Less common side effects include rash, changes in skin pigment such as darkening or dark spots, hair changes, and muscle weakness. If experienced, these tend to have a Severe expression. Abnormal Liver Function Tests. Acute Liver Failure. Acute Pustular Eruptions On Skin. Bronchospasm. Decreased Blood Platelets. Decreased White Blood Cells. Deficiency Of Granulocytes A Type Of White Blood Cell. I "know" I need some meds, but cannot tolerate Plaquenil. Wondering if anyone has come across something "natural" that mimics it. Thanks & LIGHT*****carole - Hi, Carole. When I started Plaquenil, my GI system was in an uproar. But it usually was anyway. I didn't realize, until I saw Dr.

In some cases, they may not be available in every strength or form as the brand-name drug. Wallace's book and found the stats, plus my rheumie telling me much the same, that many people with lupus (something like 40% or more) "present" with GI problems. Meaning long enough to start to sort out whether your problems were mainly from the disease or from the med?

  7. I have taken Plaquinel/hydroxychloroquine at a low dose as maintenance for my SLE for over 20 years. No side effects. No problems. Until I went on Medicare and they don't want to pay for it. They want me to try cheaper alternatives before they will pay for hydroxychloroquine. I can take it but I would have to pay a high price for it.

Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil thread COVID19 If you contract it, you go to a doctor. Chloroquine is a generally well tolerated drug. As CQ has a host-based MOA, resistance is unlikely to develop. There are some serious adverse effects and contraindications though. Do not take CQ if you have G6DH deficiency, get that checked.
