    Hydroxychloroquine and gas

It may have both an anti-spirochaete activity and an anti-inflammatory activity, similar to the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. And caution is required if patients have certain heart conditions, diabetes, psoriasis etc.

There is no Abdominal bloating reported by people who take Plaquenil yet. This review analyzes which people have Abdominal bloating with Plaquenil. It is created by eHealthMe based on reports from Food and Drug Administration FDA, and is updated regularly. eHealthMe helps people find optimal drugs between effectiveness and side effects. I've just started taking Plaquenil again after a gap since last August, stopped because of an eye problem that was found to be not due to Plaquenil. I started feeling ill again in January and started Plaquenil two weeks ago. I was already a bit windy but I think this has increased, although I've never had a problem before. I was diagnosed with RA last year, was put on plaquenil and got severe tummy pains and bloating. Went off it and didn’t take any meds until last week due to flare ups, started taking plaquenil again. Gives me severe gas and flatulence. Has anyone experienced this? Not sure if certain foods are causing the gas.

The most serious adverse effects affect the eye, with dose-related retinopathy as a concern even after hydroxychloroquine use is discontinued. The most common adverse effects are a mild nausea and occasional stomach cramps with mild diarrhea.

  6. First, my mother and sister took plaquenil for lupus with good effect, so I am not just disliking it for no good reason. I also suffer from disabling bipolar disorder. For 25 years, I have gotten hypomanic during spring. Very happy, never depressed. When I started taking Plaquenil, I got a bit depressed but that's not a big deal.

    • What Is the Difference between Hydroxychloroquine and..

Hydroxychloroquine comes as a tablet to take by mouth. For prevention of malaria in adults, two tablets are usually taken once a week on exactly the same day of each week. The first dose is taken 1 to 2 weeks before traveling to an area where malaria is common, and then doses are continued for 8 weeks after exposure. Intestinal problems should resolve pretty quickly, but I do have ongoing gas/minor discomfort from plaquenil. Beano and Gas-X help a lot with that. It's a small price to pay for the major positive impact of the drug, for me. I'm on 400 mg/day. Trying out different times of the day and/or taking it after a full meal might help. Hydroxychloroquine is commonly used alongside other disease-modifying drugs including methotrexate – especially for rheumatoid arthritis. However, some drugs can interact with hydroxychloroquine. Indigestion remedies for example, antacids including some over-the-counter preparations can stop hydroxychloroquine being absorbed.
